Waiting...

Frosty: The Retirement Years

Lot
of pressure
to post the
big
goodbye
to 2010,
that scoundrel
of
a year.
Although,
as far as years
go,
this one
was
certainly
365 days.
I feel
the
picture above
best symbolizes
the
transition,
for reasons:

1. sweet hat/scarf combo
2. Burby in the background
3. waiting for something else

All
variously appropriate
themes.
One
thing is for certain.
There's a Twilight Zone
marathon
on.
See
you next year.

How To Run A Media Empire (The Almost '11 Edition)

literally thousands of dollars/jobs being managed

As
we wind on down
that...winding...   <----Led Zeppelin?
Wait.
Let me try again.

The best thing
about
sneak-attacking someone,
ninja style,
is obviously the
element of
surprise.

If you
work from home,
or in media,
or on a computer somewhere,
try
not to be surprised
at
the picture above.
That's probably
what
your boss
looks like.
You see,
the imporant
lesson
to learn from 2010
is that
life's
not so much about
"working harder",
as it is
"working smarter", <----obscure Scott Adams reference
"knowing the right people",
and
"making sure you live in San Antonio".
Also read:
photoshop.

All Talk

nothing gross

All talk.
All talk.
You are all talk.

Blast Off!!!

First, read some reviews (don't forget this one).
Maybe check to make sure
other people are listening.
Finally,
go ahead.

What World Is This

Something
is
different
about

Head for the Light

to enter ominous green hallway, or not to enter ominous green hallway

When
poised on the brink
of
new discovery,
much as
most of us     <---time travelers non-withstanding
are
in these fleeting moments
before
'11,
its good to remember certain rules:

1. Never
fall in love
with zombies

2. Stay
away from
ominous green hallways

and, of course,

3. Never
bet on Dallas.

Fusion

control yourselves ladies

They
call him
Mr. Randolph.
Some
say he taught
Neon Indian
everything
(t)he(y) know(s).
Others
say
he's the creator of
a new
genre,
called
"polysynth-fusion".
He's
fa sho.
Just another
thing
San Antonio has
that
you don't.

Demon Kitty

the power of christ...um...what was that last part...

Ya.
That looks
like

really
good
pet.
Like,
something
that someone
would
benefit from owning.
How much is that kitty in the window?
The
one
with the
waggly tail
eyes of satan/
indistinguishable mass-boundaries/
soulless existence?
What's that,
you say?
It's going to ruin
all
of my stuff?
It's
going to scratch
all
of my friends?
Sold.
A hundred times, sold!
Demon Kitty.

A'Ruckus

no, that's not me

I know.
I know
what you're
thinking.
What are
Frontier Ruckus,
indie-darlings,
champions of the North,
oft-tweeted about
by
Ryan Adams (Moore),
doing
in San Antonio
at Merykid's
secret taco hangout lair?
Eating,
probably.
Stay tuned...

Casiotone 403, cont'd...

vintage instruments + paisley = garden state royal tenenbaums my kitchen

It's funny
how many
things change in a year (etc...).
Back when I posted
about my Casiotone 403,
hardly any pictures existed
on Google.
My phone didn't even have
the ability
to take pictures,
much less
upload them to a blog.
Now
that post is the first thing that comes up
when you Google
"Casiotone 403",
aside from
there now being lots of pictures,
posts,
and
people contacting me
wanting me to sell it.
But alas,
and this one was written entirely
on the 403,
which, again, if you are interested in
the sounds,
check out my myspace page HERE*.

*Both the songs "All System Go"
and
"In Dreams"
were recorded with the CT-403.

If you have any pictures
or Casiotone stories,

Feels Good To Be Home

<3 my frendz

I'm
a fan of
a lot of things:

1. Peanuts (both the comic and food item)
2. Words with double meanings.
3. etc...

and most importantly,
483. Legend of Zelda-esque personal quests,
pertaining
to both the departure of body
and mind
into far away places.

This is why
I never get too upset
when I lose members of a band
to other ventures.
Like Waco.
Or the National Drumline (champs).
Eventually,
like all great loves do,
they come back home.
They come back home.

They signed this:

July 2010:
Rolling Stone Magazine names Frontier Ruckus
as a premiere band to watch
at Bonnaroo.

By the time
Ryan Adams
was twittering about them
a few days ago,
I had already convinced myself
of being the missing link
between every famous thing on Earth.
I'm looking at you, Neon Indian (circa July 18th, 2009)

Old School

Perhaps
it is how we react
to life's problems
that best describes us as "people".
When life hands me lemons,
I tend to
isolate myself in an apartment
with nothing but
anime dvds,
styrofoam,
striped fabric,
and a dream.

Once upon a time,
I owned a record label.
True story.
Registered the ol' girl
back
in 2006.
Not really sure
why
I forgot about
my own company
for four years,
but it is nice
having a corporation
to fall back on
during hard times.

How many companies do you own?
I'm at 3.

Greg G (A Think Piece)

For awhile,
everytime I went to my friend
Brandon Faucett's apartment,
all I would hear about was
Greg G.
Then,
when Facebook constructed
the option to upload videos to your wall,
all I would see was
Greg G.
Then,
when I got my own radio show,
every other radio station was talking about
Greg G.
Then,
this morning I turned on the TV
around 10:30 AM,
and watched
Greg G.
And
here I was,
thinking he was just another
Dragonball Z
fan.

Comparisons

I was told last night
after an impromptu live performance
that I may sound like this band.
I've never been a fan of comparisons,
I feel they are lazy.
Gaga is not the new Madonna.
Usher is not the new Michael Jackson.
And Maroon 5,
well,
their last two albums are just awful.
Anyway,
here are a few notable comparisons I've received
to favorable results,
and otherwise.    <---CLICK THIS

- Bon Iver
- Sufjan Stevens
- Paul Simon
- Jason Mraz (this one still haunts me)
- Radiohead (sorry if this angers anyone reading this,
I'm not the one who watched/listened/compared)
- Joe Cocker
- Ryan Adams (although this one is a bit dated)

and my most memorable, from some dude on a plane...

- Kid Rock

Actually, I'm ok with that one.

Ghosts

HP8 - Snape's Vacation

They say them's ghosts
in that thurr tower.
Somewhere along the downtown
roads of San Antonio
lies the spirit of a woman,
restlessly searching for the things she once knew,
once had,
perhaps for the people she left behind,
or the things she never found.
I've never been one for ghost stories,
in fact I strongly recall
having the nerve to insist
that no one on Bus 88
tell any ghost stories at all,
partly because I was raised in a strict Catholic home
and was often taught to fear the things I didn't understand,
and partly because I didn't need that shit
when riding the bus home from
Elementary school.
How's a kid supposed to chill out on some
early 90's Nickelodeon programming
when there are ghosts drifting around
his greater collective subconscious?
At the age of 25,
I experience ghosts in very strange ways.
Ex-girlfriends calling you at 11 AM on a Monday,
friends living new lives in far off places,
facebook stalking people you met once on tour
with your old band in some
remote area of Colorado.
None of these things really exist anymore,
and I realize that just like the 7 year old kid
riding the bus,
I'm still scared of ghosts.
But whereas I used to be afraid of seeing them,
now the scary part is how far removed
its all become.
Hopefully I can dunk in the next life.

Mexicans With Guns (A Think Piece)

WHO IS THIS MASKED MAN?
WHY DOES HIS MUSIC ROCK SO HARD??
Seriously though...
Kind of the
hottest thing going
in
my hometown right now...
and the music ain't bad either.

Merykid/Trendsetting

I'm starting to feel
my influence on pop-culture
taking form.
I had a bit of an inkling
a few years back,
when a set of pictures I took in
September 2008
promoting my (at the time) most recent project,
"Boy & The Bird"    <--click this

bore a strong resemblance
to some
photos Kanye took in
November 2008
promoting his (at the time) most recent project,
"808's and Heartbreak"

And now,
for my newest example,
here are some pictures
I took in
December 2009
in order to promote my upcoming release,
"The Raccoon"

Notice the "homemade superhero" aesthetic,
as if my DIY music/image
was created to
strike
fear in the hearts
of chillwave(r)s everywhere!
But, in
April of 2010,
a movie about homemade superheroes
named
"Kick Ass"
came out, where everyone looked
like this

which, again, is cool and all,
but it leaves me
with a bit of pressure on my shoulders,
as I now realize
every promotional tool I choose
will be
extremely popular
a few months later,
and usually to the financial
benefit
of someone else.
This leaves me no choice but to sabotage pop-culture
as we know it.
If I can somehow convince whoever
is spying on me/my brain
that whatever horrible thing I'm doing
is actually on purpose,
maybe Justin Bieber will come onstage in a tutu
and we can all forget the last
year of music
ever happened.
Be on the lookout for that "new Merykid" craze any day now!

Mexican With Guns - "Dame Lo" Music Video

Dame Lo - Mexicans With Guns from System D-128 on Vimeo.

Yes.
Yes, its true.
The Mighty Merykid has made his
official on-screen debut.
See if you can spot me (several times) in this
new music video,
shot entirely in San Antonio,
Official Merykid IMDB page soon to follow.
Oh, and
check out Burby in the first frame.
So proud of her.

Kanye Tw'est

must. invest. in horns.

When new things happen in pop-culture,
I have noticed a personal trend of
inherent skepticism,
mostly used as a defense mechanism against
the lame (Twitter, Gaga, Jersey Shore),
as well as trying to avoid
the cliche' that is someone's over-eagerness to provide
"the next big thing"
before anyone else.
So
Kanye West
"finally getting a Twitter account"
is probably a huge deal to a lot of people,
not really sure why,
as Twitter has basically become facebook for celebrities.
Take any twitterized statement        <----I will never use the word "tweet"
Kanye makes,
and substitute
his worth with that of
the dude who sat
next to you in a random English class
at your
local community college in 2005.
I doubt The New Yorker will be calling him, or you for knowing him.
Unless I was that guy in your English class.
Then you should care.

Joey Castillo, cont'd...

Joey Castillo
and I have worked together
for about 7 years now,
due to his penchant for pictures
(currently pursuing a master's in photography from UT)
being mutually beneficial
with my
constant need of self-documentation
(I'm an artist).
It's hard enough holding on to the present,
let alone the past                               <---stereotypical set-up
(insert commentary on
the youth/
social networking/
ADD/
original Nickelodeon programming).
Somehow,
Joey and I have remained friends
and business partners
this entire time,
despite
the many places he and I have both travelled.
If the word "Merykid" ever means something
outside of San Antonio,
I think Joey will be there too.

DeadBeatSummer

"shouldn't have taken acid with you" - thing I said to my dog

Hot as "F" in my hometown.
Trying to keep it together,
for the sake of the dogs/plants.
Albums Dominating My Personal Brainspace/Airwaves:
Drake - Thank Me Later
Eminem - Recovery
Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms
Bob Dylan - Together Through Life
Merykid - The Raccoon (give me a break, I just finished it)
Can't say I really care what you think about that list.
Too hot to care.
Too many living things depending on me (dogs, plants, electronic duck).
TV Shows Dominating My Personal Eyespace/Brainwaves:
Avatar The Last Airbender
Dragon Ball Z Kai
Invader Zim
The Boondocks
True Blood
Entourage Season 7
Somehow, by the grace of God,
the summer of 2010 is especially catering towards
anime fans.
Nickelodeon somehow got it in their heads
to revamp
Dragon Ball Z and Invader Zim,
as well as
all three seasons of Avatar (in
preparation for some movie),
as if they were wondering how
my life could possibly
be sweeter.
Lastly,
Things I Don't Care About That Everyone Else Seemingly Does:
World Cup
Lady GaGa
Real Housewives of Anywhere
Bros
Heading to Orange Cup.
Stay chillaxy.

Proud
